Large weddings in the Var: venues for 200 guests or more
Hosting a reception for 200, 300 or 400 guests calls for a venue that can seat everyone, even if it rains. The venues in our selection that can do it, and the logistics to plan for.
Beyond 200 guests, the choice of venue narrows. A large garden is not enough: you need an indoor fallback space of the right size, parking, enough toilets and a caterer able to serve everyone at the same time. Here are the venues in our selection that host large receptions, and what to check.
Venues for more than 300 guests
- Château de Font du Broc, in Les Arcs-sur-Argens: from 100 to 650 seated guests, with a monumental equestrian hall and a barrel cellar. It is the largest in our selection. No accommodation on site.
- Château Sainte Roseline, in Les Arcs-sur-Argens: from 30 to 400 guests, including 250 in the Salle des Vendanges.
- Les Pins Penchés, in Toulon: up to 400 people seated, overlooking the harbour.
- Bastide Saint Julien, in La Celle: from 160 to 350 guests, with a large 500 m² salon.
- Château de Robernier, in Montfort-sur-Argens: from 100 to 300 guests indoors, and many more outdoors in the main courtyard.

Seated, standing, indoor, outdoor capacity
The capacities venues advertise do not all measure the same thing. Before comparing, ask for:
- the seated capacity for dinner, at round tables or long tables;
- the standing capacity for the drinks reception;
- the indoor capacity, which is what counts if it rains;
- the space available for the dance floor once the tables are set up.
A venue advertised for "up to 400 people" outdoors may seat only 200 indoors. That second figure is the one that counts on the day it rains.
The logistics of a large wedding
Parking and shuttles
200 guests often means more than 80 cars. Check the size of the car park and coach access: many estates sit at the end of narrow lanes. Shuttles from hotels or a station reduce the number of cars and the drives home at night.
Toilets
An estate's toilets are rarely designed for 300 people. Ask how many there are and, if needed, hire mobile toilets.
Catering and service
Serving 300 hot plates at the same time requires a large team and a suitable kitchen area. Ask the caterer how many waiting staff they plan for and whether they have worked at the venue before.
Electricity and sound
Lighting, sound system, the caterer's kitchen: the available electrical power has to keep up. For a big party, also check the noise limits and when the music must stop.
Accommodation
No venue can accommodate 300 guests. Book blocks of rooms in nearby hotels and arrange transport back. Our article on venues with accommodation details how many each one can take.
The budget for a large wedding
With a lot of guests, the caterer becomes the biggest expense, well ahead of the venue hire. A slightly more expensive venue that includes furniture, a large indoor fallback space and parking can work out cheaper overall. Our article on wedding venue prices details the extra costs to plan for.
